I researched how fuel machines integrate with POS systems in the U.S. Fuel pumps do not provide direct public APIs. Instead, they connect to a forecourt controller, which communicates with the POS using certified protocols from manufacturers like Gilbarco or Wayne. The POS can then get data such as fuel dispensed and daily totals through this controller. For now, we can simulate this flow in our system and keep the architecture ready for future hardware integration.
