Feature #11610: Free Trial Integration in Company on boarding
Task 4: Stripe Webhook Automation & US Compliance Lifecycle
Description
Purpose: Automate the entire subscription lifecycle from trial activation to paid conversion or cancellation in accordance with US regulatory standards.
Detailed Explanation:
Mandatory 3-Day Pre-Expiration Notice: Under California Automatic Renewal Law (ARL) and Visa/Mastercard network rules, merchants must notify customers 3 to 7 days before a free trial converts to a paid subscription. We must listen for Stripe's pre-expiration webhook and automatically send a transactional reminder email detailing the upcoming charge date, the exact charge amount, and a direct link to cancel.
Automatic Conversion to Active Paid Status: When the trial concludes, Stripe automatically creates and charges the first invoice. Upon receiving confirmation that payment succeeded, the system must transition the tenant's status from trialing to active and automatically expand their resource limits from the restricted trial quotas to the full plan quotas.
Trial Conversion Failure Handling: If the initial post-trial charge fails (e.g., due to an expired card or insufficient funds), the subscription must transition to past_due, initiating an automated dunning sequence and entering a 7-day grace period.
Self-Serve Cancellation Handling: If the tenant cancels their trial before expiration, Stripe's cancellation event must be processed so the subscription is scheduled to terminate at the end of the trial period without charging the customer.
